Handling Difficult People

Understanding effective communication and conflict resolution techniques in response to difficult situations and/or people is a critical area of training for security guards. Lessons in this course will cover topics such as communication and conflict management strategies, verbal negotiation techniques to diffuse conflicts, identification of warning signs of potential violence, and various other topics that will give the officer practical skills to defuse unusual situations.

Course Objectives:

  • Be able to identify and discuss several types of communication skills and models.
  • Be able to effectively resolve conflicts within the workplace through the use of verbal and nonverbal communication.
  • Be able to understand cues and behaviors for effective communication.
  • Be able to develop an awareness and sensitivity for others.
  • Be able to find a clear and effective way to negotiate situations with difficult people.
  • Be able to apply various strategies and techniques for defusing aggressive behaviors.
